Why Young 5’s?
Young 5’s is a 5 day a week program which runs from 8:45am to 1:30pm. Lunch is included each day. Students in Kindergarten are expected to learn to read, perform basic math functions, master handwriting, listen attentively for long periods of time and function with ever increasing levels of expectations. Our Young 5’s program is designed to prepare your child for Kindergarten.
Our low teacher to student ratio ensures that children will receive individualized one on one attention. Curriculum for our Young 5’s program has been developed from the Michigan Department of Education standards to ensure a successful transition into Kindergarten.
Our program uses developmentally appropriate, hands-on learning centers to build enthusiasm for school and confidence to solve problems while interacting with peers.
Through interactive teaching experiences and active discovery, children participate in Language and Literacy, Social Studies, Social/Emotional Development, Gross/Fine Motor Development, Mathematics, Science, Technology, and Art.
In our classroom your child will learn the 40 Pre-Primer sight words, letter sounds, begin to read, continue their handwriting development with our Handwriting without Tears curriculum, learn math skills through our Every Day Math curriculum, participate in science experiments, and keep a journal.
These are just some of the ways we help foster success in Kindergarten and beyond!
